Our Future

A Strategic Plan to pray for over the next 10 Years as the Lord leads:
Presented to the Congregation of Fairview Missionary Church

With my 30 year anniversary at FMC in 2004 and recognizing, the Lord willing, I probably have about 10 years (or less) left in my present role as Senior Pastor, preaching most Sundays, I present to the congregation a plan for the next ten years. Each part of this should be understood to have the spirit of “the Lord willing” attached to it even though that thought is not written preceding each section. Also, God’s timing is always in mind and major decisions are always approved by congregational vote before proceeding.

Continue as a Purpose Driven Church
The emphasis on “helping people take their next step toward Jesus” no matter where they are in their spiritual walk is top priority. We will continue to implement the Purpose Driven Church way of doing things, concentrating on the Five Purposes of the Church: worship, fellowship,
ministry, discipleship, and evangelism.

Continue with Classes 101, 201, 301, and 401 and moving people from the “crowd” to the “core” in the Circle of Commitment.

Create more classes that fit under each 100, 200, 300, and 400
category and create “life skills” seminars.

Become a teaching / equipping church, helping other churches
God has blessed FMC and we have learned many lessons through the various paths down which the Lord has led us - staff, building, outreach, programs. I will spend one or two days a month helping other Missionary Churches, coaching, encouraging. This may increase in future years if I am not preaching every Sunday. This is a part of the District ministry that large churches are being asked to help with. This may also involve struggling pastors spending a year at FMC to
get their batteries recharged to get back into the ministry. This involves an intern program for college students and purchasing land south of the church for dorms, maybe constructing a multi-family house for dorms for college students.

Helping struggling Missionary Churches
We will continue to help other Missionary Churches in our district with financial and work-day help.

Very Contemporary Worship Service
If we had a very soundproof room I would like to try a very contemporary-music worship service at the same time as our present worship. Target audience would be the college age student. This service would have its own worship band, casual setting-seated at tables, flavored coffee; but would get the same message, by video, as the other worship service or a special video speaker each week. With technology, this service could even be in another area of town.

Future Message Series:
2009 What on earth are WE here for?
2011 What on earth am I here for?
2013 What on earth are WE here for?
and so on . . . Praying we can partner with
other churches to do this the same time we do.

Staffing:
Whatever area of ministry we want to emphasize by staffing, that area will no doubt grow. We will continue to staff for the five purposes of the church without ignoring age group staffing.
Eric: fellowship and discipleship
Glenn: worship
Norm: ministry and evangelism
Rachel: children
Joel: teens
Fred: college / young adult
There are many different scenarios to follow and many different
variables that influence all this.

Purchase the houses and land directly south of the church as they become available.
Use them in various ministries such as:
1. Dorms for interns or college students
2. FMC missionaries home on furlough
3. Troubled pastors from other Missionary churches to get their batteries recharged

Pastor’s Successor
I feel I have a lot of emotional and spiritual energy left and want to continue in the role as pastor as long as my good health stays with me. I also recognize that someday there is a change coming for me and for the congregation.

Future Building Programs
We prayerfully consider extra space for future ministry as the need is
evident.

Ideas that have been studied and either postponed or closed:
Christian Bookstore
In 2005, we gave serious study to doing a Christian bookstore
ministry in our area. It was decided that at this time, it is not the best
use of our resources to do this ministry. If there is a major change in
our ministry resources, by the time the present Christian bookstore
decides to discontinue ministry, we could possibly give this another look at
that time.
The church leadership seeks your prayers and input on this 10 year plan.
I know the plans I have for you...plans to prosper you...plans to give you a hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me and I will listen.
