3 VERY IMPORTANT things to remember about this ministry:
1. You cannot pay for your Angel Food order through the regular offering. You must pay at the time you turn in your order. We accept only cash (correct amount, please) and EBTs.
2. You must meet the order deadline. There are no extensions.
3. Your food order must be picked up during the designated distribution times. If you cannot be here, you need to make arrangements for a friend or family member to pick up your order for you. Food that is not picked up will be donated to Project Help or an FMC family. You will not receive a refund or credit for your order.
1. What is Angel Food Ministries?
Angel Food Ministries is a nonprofit, nondenominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief to communities throughout the United States. Angel Food’s greatly discounted groceries are sold in a quantity that can fit into a medium sized box for only $30 per box. Each month’s menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items valued at $50 on average.
2. Who qualifies?
Everyone - there are no applications or qualifications to order Angel Food. Buyers of all income levels are welcome because increased purchases help keep costs down for the benefit of low income buyers. Higher income buyers are encouraged to purchase an extra unit for donation to an under-resourced family.
3. Where does the food come from?
The food is “restaurant grade” meats, frozen vegetables, fruits, dairy products, etc. which come through the distributors’ involvement with only the best producers / vendors of high quality, “name brand” foods. “Seconds” or “day old” type products are never involved.
4. Who does the ordering, pickup, sorting, and distribution of food?
Volunteers, however Howard and Nance Dalton will handle the over all processing of Angel Food.
5. Do I really save money or is this a gimmick?
You save money. Pastor Norm asked a manager from Aldi Foods to go over the Angel Food Ministries food list. At that time Angel Food’s price was $25. The price for comparable items at Aldi was $40.73; at Walmart or Meijer it would be $50-$60.
6. How often do I buy and how much?
Each month Angel Food has a new box. You choose whether you want to buy that month or not. You may order as many units as you want. You must purchase at least one regular unit to purchase the specials.
7. When do I get the food?
Food will be delivered to Fairview on a Saturday, about two weeks after ordering. We pick up the food now at another destination.
8. The following is a press release from the Angel Food Ministries web site: What is Angel Food Ministries?
Blessings by the Box - Angel Food Ministries is a nonprofit, nondenominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief to communities throughout the United States. Angel Food’s groceries are sold in quantity that can fit into a medium sized box at $30 per unit. Each month’s menu is different from the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $50. The food is all the same high quality you would purchase at a grocery store. There are no secondhand items, no damaged or outdated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe. Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week, or a single senior citizen for almost a month. Also offered are specialty boxes such as steaks, chicken, and pork. Many participants in this bonus program appreciated the expanded choices. Additionally, there is no limit to the number of units or bonus foods an individual can purchase, and there are no applications to complete or qualifications to which participants must adhere. Angel Food Ministries, like almost all retail grocery stores, also participates in the U.S. Food Stamp program, using the Off-Line Food Stamp Voucher System. 9. Can you give me a sample menu and order form?
Each month’s menu is different. There are menus and order forms at the Connection Center if you would like to see one.
10. Why is FMC doing this?
It’s just good stewardship and we pray to reach out to a group of people who need this ministry in our area.
11. Which of the five purposes of the church does this ministry fulfill?
Ministry to the under resourced.
Very Important . . .
12. A special note that must be understood:
The time for ordering and pickup must be strictly adhered to. Usually the ordering closes on the second Monday of the month and pickup on the last Saturday. There is some deviation from this schedule in November and December due to the holidays.
13. How and when do I place and pay for my Angel Food order?
Payment must be included with your order; not when you pick it up. Only cash in the exact amount and EBTs are accepted. It will be announced in the bulletin when orders will be accepted and what the deadline is. Nothing is handled through the offering. You cannot pay for Angel Food orders through the offering on Sunday.
14. Where did you find out about this ministry?
We “stumbled” onto it with Pastor Norm’s son, Tony’s church in Indianapolis.
15. Have you talked with others who do this?
Yes. We talked to other Missionary Churches and Coldwater Nazarene Church. They all told us it is a good outreach to the community. In addition, we did a test group of about 15 families at FMC for two months to see how they would respond to this ministry. They all said, let’s do it!
16. Who buys Angel Food?
Everybody does. The over resourced buy it to be good stewards. The under resourced buy it to help stretch their food dollars. People from all walks of life buy Angel Food.
17. I want to buy Angel Food to give to others. How do I do this?
You may fill out an Angel Food order form, marking the line for “donated units”, and turn it in with the cash at the Connection Center. We will see that the food is given to an under-resourced family.
18. How long are we going to do this ministry?
As long as the demand for orders are needed, and having volunteer participation monthly.
19. I have questions not answered here. Who do I call?

20. What can I do now?
