Joel’s Journal
Entry #32
If we have any Star Wars fans out there I will do the obligatory, “May the fourth be with you”. Today is actually my Dad’s birthday. He has always loved Sci-Fi movies. I’m not sure if it is because he actually likes them or because he was born on May 4th. It has always been easy for me to remember his birthday because it is 5/4/54. It is hard to believe my Dad is turning 68 today. I still remember him celebrating his 40th birthday. This year I celebrate my 40th birthday so that means it was 28 years ago and I was 12, the same age of my son Micah. I think the older you get, the faster time goes. I remember when a week seemed like forever. Now, a week goes by so fast, I sometimes even lose track of days.
This is your friendly reminder that Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 8th. This is the earliest that Mother’s Day can ever be. It is always the second Sunday in May. It just so happens that the first Sunday in May was the 1st this year. As long as we don’t get snow I am okay with it.
My wife, Karolyn, has now given the okay to let you all know that she had a hysterectomy on Monday April 25th. They took out a cantaloupe sized fibroid that was embedded in her uterine wall. They also removed some endometriosis. It certainly has been a rough recovery for her and we appreciate your prayers as she continues to heal. I have a new appreciation for Moms as I have been working from home and trying to take care of the three kids as well. Moms, you are amazing. Thank you for doing what you do. I think it will be a few weeks before she is feeling 90% or better. She has been walking laps in our house every day, but if it would warm up, it would be a lot nicer to walk outside.
I had someone send me a puzzle a few months ago. It is attached to this journal so you can enjoy it like I did. It took me a little time, but I loved it. There are 30 books of the Bible hidden in the paragraphs. There are 66 books total, so 30 is just under half. A little hint for you: the names of the books can be separated by a space and/or punctuation. Have fun with this and share it with your friends.
I am going to pay my property tax bill after I am done writing this journal. Is anyone else amazed at how much we are “taxed”? These are the taxes I can think of as I sit here…Property Tax, Income Tax, Social Security Tax, Medicare Tax, Self-Employment Tax, State Tax, Payroll Tax, County Tax, City Tax, State Sales Tax on everything you buy, Excise Tax on vehicles, Tire Tax, Gift Tax if you give too much money to someone, Estate Tax if you leave too much to your children, and Capital Gains Tax. Basically you pay taxes on what you make, what you buy and what you own. I don’t want to make anyone mad, but I was just thinking about it today as I go to pay my property tax. We are still very blessed.
Have a wonderful week. I look forward to seeing you all on Mother’s Day. We will have a treat for you.
In God’s Love,
Joel R. Greenwood
